Georgia 93-7 WQCH is expanding its coverage of LaFayette High School athletics with the launch of Queen City Scoops Rambler Coach’s Corner, a new weekly program dedicated to highlighting Rambler coaches and student-athletes.
The program will air Monday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. and originate live from Queen City Scoops in LaFayette. The show will be hosted by Shawn “Butterbean” Green and will feature interviews with LaFayette High School coaches and student-athletes representing the school’s various athletic programs.
For Green, the opportunity is especially meaningful. A 1997 graduate of LaFayette High School, Green has deep roots in Rambler athletics.
“I’m so excited to be hosting the Coach’s Corner for the LaFayette Ramblers, my alma mater,” Green said. “I’ve been a part of the athletic programs since the mid-80s, when my brother played there and my other two brothers were in the marching band.”
Green was also a three-sport athlete at LaFayette, playing football and basketball while also competing in track.
“All my kids graduated from LHS, too,” Green said. “For me to be able to do this show, to highlight these coaches and athletes in a positive manner, it’s just a thrill.”
Green said the program will give him an opportunity to spotlight the people who dedicate their time to LaFayette’s student-athletes.
“These coaches put their heart and soul into our kids, and I can’t wait to talk to all of them,” he said.
Green summed up his connection to LaFayette High School with a phrase that has become part of his identity in the community.
“I’ve been born, bred and Rambler fed,” Green said.
WQCH Owner and General Manager Chris Goforth said the new program is part of the station’s effort to expand its local sports coverage beyond its traditional broadcasts of football and basketball games.
“We’ve wanted to find new ways to expand our coverage of local sports beyond just broadcasting football and basketball games,” Goforth said. “This allows us to shine a light on all the athletic programs at LHS.”
Goforth said Queen City Scoops was a natural partner for the program because of the business’s commitment to the community and its support for local high school sports.
“We’re lucky to have such a great business community to be a part of, and Queen City Scoops is committed to being a part of the community,” Goforth said. “They love local high school sports, so it was just a natural fit. Plus, who doesn’t love ice cream?”
Goforth said Green’s passion for LaFayette athletics also made him the perfect person to host the program.
“We couldn’t find anyone who loves LHS and its coaches and students more than Butterbean,” Goforth said. “He’s been so involved in sports at every level in this area. We’re blessed to have him as a part of our team, and I know his excitement for Rambler Nation is going to come through.”
Goforth also credited LaFayette High School coaches and Athletic Director Tom Langford for supporting the station’s efforts to showcase more Rambler athletes.
“We really appreciate the cooperation from our coaches to help make this happen, too,” Goforth said. “Athletic Director Tom Langford has been really supportive of our efforts to highlight more athletes at LaFayette.”
