WALKER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION PLANS FULL MILLAGE ROLLBACK
The Walker County Board of Education plans to adopt the rollback rate of 14.013 at the board meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026. The rollback rate is calculated on the previous year’s millage rate minus the millage equivalent of the total net assessed value added by reassessments.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing to adopt the millage rate for 2026. This meeting will be held at the boardroom of the Walker County Department of Education located at 301 N Cherokee Street, LaFayette, Georgia, on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 6:00 pm.
The Walker County School District takes its responsibility to the tax payers, the students, and the community as a whole very seriously. The School District is faced with hard decisions every year to find a workable balance between meeting the growing needs of the students and keeping local taxes as low as possible while maximizing state funding. Over the past 6 years, the District has shown this dedication by lowering or maintaining the millage rate. In 2019, the millage rate was set at 17.404 and now, in 2026, the plan is to take the full rollback rate at 14.013 mills.
