A group of Walker County residents is calling for greater public involvement in the county’s budget process after raising concerns about the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
Members of the collective say they believe the proposed budget contains an approximately $2 million shortfall and are urging county leaders to consider additional revenue options that they say would not require increasing local taxes. The group contends those alternatives have not been fully explored.
The residents are encouraging citizens to become involved in local government and attend public meetings, saying community participation can influence decisions that affect the county.
The Walker County Board of Commissioners had been expected to consider adoption of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget during its meeting on Thursday. However, the proposed budget was removed from the meeting agenda, and no vote was taken.
