Richard “Rickey” Allen Smith, age 79, of Chickamauga, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Rickey was a lifelong resident of the area and retired from Walker County Animal Control. At the age of 15, he developed a passion for bull riding and went on to compete in rodeos throughout the local area. He also enjoyed horseback riding and spending time with his close friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie Smith; and parents, T.W. Smith and Margaret Roberts Smith.
Rickey is survived by his daughter, Kelle Smith; son, Matthew Smith; granddaughter, Jessica Smith; great-granddaughters, Linley and Bella; sister, Myra Kay (Raymond) Randles; brother, Johnny (Joyce) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Millican officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Barry Smith, Tanner Smith, Matt Smith, Dennis Beaty, Richard Norris, and Rusty Hayes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walker County Animal Shelter 5488 North Marble Top Road, Chickamauga, GA 30707.
