Two LaFayette Police Department officers are being recognized for their work following an investigation that began with a report of a suspicious person and ultimately linked a suspect to multiple entering-auto thefts in the area.
According to the department, Sergeant Simpson and Patrolman McDaniel responded on Aug. 7 to a report of a suspicious man loitering on the back porch of a residence.
The officers arrested the individual, who police said was found in possession of a handgun and a large amount of cash.
Following the initial arrest, Simpson and McDaniel continued investigating the incident. Police said their follow-up work linked the suspect to multiple additional entering-auto thefts that had occurred in the immediate area.
The officers gathered statements and evidence, completed additional reports, and conducted another interview with the suspect at the jail as part of the investigation.
The LaFayette Police Department praised the officers for going beyond the initial call and demonstrating proactive police work, teamwork, and dedication to the community.
Sergeant Simpson and Patrolman McDaniel were each presented with a Letter of Commendation recognizing their efforts and service.
The department congratulated both officers on a job well done and thanked them for their commitment to keeping LaFayette safe.
