The walking trail on the Walker County Civic Center campus will temporarily close again later this month as crews begin the final phase of remediation work.
Weather permitting, construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 17, and continue for several weeks. During that time, crews will spread several truckloads of rock across the trail and install additional drainage pipes.
Once the remediation work is complete, the trail will be ready for its new surface.
Walker County received funding through the Recreational Trails Program to replace the existing gravel trail with asphalt. County officials said the improvements will help prevent future washouts and make the trail more accessible throughout the year.
The trail will remain closed while the work is underway. The construction schedule could be affected by weather conditions.
