Walker County’s “Mulch Madness” got off to a strong start Monday, with dozens of residents taking advantage of an opportunity to pick up free mulch at the Walker County Landfill.
According to Walker County Government, 32 residents stopped by the landfill during the first day of the event, receiving a combined 39.16 tons of free mulch.
Residents who missed out Monday still have an opportunity to participate. Free mulch will continue to be available throughout the week while supplies last.
Residents interested in receiving mulch should pull up to the scale house at the Walker County Landfill between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and tell a team member they are there for “Mulch Madness.” Landfill staff will then direct residents to the area where the mulch is being distributed.
To allow as many residents as possible to take advantage of the program, the county is limiting the giveaway to two loader scoops of mulch per household.
The free mulch will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
