Albert “Bert” Bryant Nichols, age 85, of LaFayette, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He attended Rock Spring Methodist Church and had been a member since 1977.
Bert was born in Haleyville, AL and attended Samford University in Birmingham where he earned his pharmacy degree. After earning his degree, he moved to the Chattanooga area to start his career.
In 1976, Bert purchased Drew’s Drugs in Fort Oglethorpe, where he proudly served the community for 20 years before selling the business. Following the sale of Drew’s Drugs, he continued his career with several pharmacies throughout the area, including Medi-Thrift. He eventually retired from Trion Drugs in December 2018, bringing to a close a long and dedicated career in pharmacy.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Alice Nichols; parents, JR “Red” Nichols and Mary Alice Nichols; and brother, James Rufus Nichols, Jr.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Beverly Davene Nichols; daughter, Jennifer Nichols; adopted son, Jay Nichols; son by love, David Munoz; grandchildren, Joel Andrew (Jessica) Huggins II, Stewart Nichols (Ashley) Huggins, Becca Bates, Ellie Nichols, A.J. Nichols; great-grandchildren, Luna Huggins, Link Huggins, and Rhett Huggins; sister, Sally Kay Gilliland; brother, William Irvin Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, at Rock Spring Cemetery with Rev. Terry Fleming officiating.
Family will receive friends from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Sunday at The Spring Fellowship Hall at Rock Spring Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rock Spring Methodist Church, 3477 Peavine Rd, Rock Spring, GA 30739, in his honor.
