The Town of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, will hold a special town council meeting later this month at the request of Rock City Enterprises, the company behind a proposed $30 million gondola project designed to transport visitors to Rock City from the valley below.
The special meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 21, at 6 p.m. at Lookout Mountain City Hall, located at 1214 Lula Lake Road.
According to the meeting agenda, Rock City Enterprises has requested amendments to the town’s zoning ordinance. The request is the only item listed on the agenda.
While the agenda does not specifically mention the proposed gondola project, the requested zoning changes involve modifying language related to “Permitted Uses in the Tourist-Oriented Commercial District and to the list of Nonconforming Uses.”
The town council is expected to consider and make a decision on the proposed amendments during the meeting.
Rock City Enterprises has been working toward a major project that would include a new gondola system carrying visitors from the valley below Lookout Mountain to the popular tourist attraction. The project has previously been estimated at approximately $30 million.
The proposal has drawn attention as Rock City and local officials consider how the project could affect transportation, traffic and development on Lookout Mountain.
Town officials note that the September 21 meeting will be open to the public. However, the agenda specifies that it is a public meeting and not a public hearing.
The special meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Lookout Mountain City Hall.
