Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has proclaimed Saturday, September 26, 2026, as National Hunting and Fishing Day across the state, recognizing the role hunters and anglers play in conservation and Georgia’s outdoor heritage.
The proclamation highlights Georgia’s long tradition of hunting and fishing and notes that sportsmen and women have helped support conservation efforts through licenses, fees and taxes on outdoor equipment. Those funds help protect wildlife populations and their habitats while supporting conservation programs across the state.
Kemp’s proclamation also recognizes the economic impact of outdoor recreation. According to the document, hunting and fishing contribute more than $9 million per day to Georgia’s economy.
The proclamation encourages Georgians to take part in National Hunting and Fishing Day and recognize the contributions hunters and anglers make toward wildlife conservation and management.
National Hunting and Fishing Day was established nationally in 1972 to celebrate the conservation efforts of hunters and anglers and to encourage participation in outdoor recreation.
The Georgia proclamation was signed by Kemp and attested by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
