The City of LaFayette has announced Abigail Griffith as its new Downtown Development Coordinator and Main Street Manager, bringing a familiar face and longtime supporter of downtown activities into the position.
Griffith has been involved with LaFayette’s downtown community for years, volunteering during clean-up days, attending events and helping promote local events and initiatives.
City officials say Griffith also brings experience and perspective gained from living in a variety of communities throughout her childhood and early adulthood, including towns in Texas, larger cities on the West Coast and nearby Trenton. Despite those experiences, Griffith said LaFayette became the community that captured her heart.
“LaFayette is incredibly special because of its community,” Griffith said. “We have a unique connection with nature and agriculture, and in a world that does so much of its living digitally, we stand out because LaFayette is still very much about real-world connection.”
Griffith said the community’s slower pace and the connections among neighbors are qualities that make LaFayette special.
“The people who live here enjoy spending time together in person,” she said. “It’s a slower-paced lifestyle that connects you with your neighbors, and it’s something to be cherished.”
Griffith has also been a supporter of the revitalization efforts that have taken place in LaFayette over the past decade. In her new position, she will now have an opportunity to play a direct role in the continued development and promotion of the downtown area.
“This is a dream job for me,” Griffith said. “I’ve loved watching LaFayette’s growth, watching it become more family-friendly, safe, and community-driven. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to be a part of this story.”
Griffith said helping people and the community thrive will be at the center of her work.
“I love seeing people thrive and be happy—that’s the driving force behind the work I do,” she said.
The city welcomed Griffith to her new role and said it looks forward to seeing the impact she will have on downtown LaFayette.
