The Chickamauga City Council will meet Wednesday, Sept. 16, with millage rates, retiree health insurance benefits, short-term vacation rentals and an upcoming $4 million federal grant announcement among the items on the agenda.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at 1817 Lee Clarkson Road in Chickamauga. Mayor Pro Tem David Jones is scheduled to call the meeting to order.
The city will hold second public hearings on its property tax rates for both general government and the Chickamauga City School District.
According to the agenda, the proposed general government millage rate would remain unchanged at 0.0 mills. The proposed Chickamauga City School District rate would also remain unchanged at 14.0 mills. Resolutions setting both rates are scheduled for council action later in the meeting.
Council members will also consider Ordinance 2026-409, which concerns the city’s policy for retiree health insurance benefits. The ordinance would repeal a 2020 resolution and restate the city’s policy, including a provision that an eligible retiree would not lose eligibility simply because a subsequent employer offers health insurance coverage.
A second ordinance, 2026-410, would amend Chickamauga’s official short-term vacation rental district map to include property at 215 Gordon Street. Both ordinances are scheduled for second hearings before the council considers taking action.
Another item on the agenda is Resolution 2026-09-18, which would update requirements for high-efficiency plumbing fixtures.
City officials are also expected to discuss a major announcement planned for Friday, Sept. 18. According to the agenda, Congressman Clay Fuller and Regional Administrator Kevin McOmber are scheduled to be at the Chickamauga Civic Center to announce a $4 million EPA grant awarded to the City of Chickamauga.
The meeting will also include approval of previous meeting minutes, an opportunity for public comments and comments from the mayor and council members.
