LaFayette Police Department says a phone scam is going on in the area. Customers of the Bank of LaFayette are receiving calls from the phone number with a 732-area code. The person is stating that they are from the Bookkeeping Department and they’re requesting to review your account information and are asking for personal identifying information which allows them to access your account. The LaFayette Police Department reminds you to always verify who you are talking to prior to giving your information over the telephone or the internet.
The Rossville Police Department was involved in a stolen car chase that ended in Chattanooga yesterday. A stolen Kia Optima crossed the state line with Rossville Police in pursuit. Chattanooga Police joined in the chase. It ended when the stolen car crashed near the Chestnut Apartments on Chestnut Street in downtown Chattanooga. A Rossville Police officer was involved in the crash but was not injured. The suspects in the Kia fled on foot before being apprehended. One of those taken into custody was already wanted on felony charges.
Work continues this week on the Sewer Redirection Project in the northern part of Walker County. You can expect detours if you are traveling in the area. McFarland Avenue will be closed this week from North Jenkins Road to Schmitt Road. The work on this portion of the road is expected to take about a month. Sewer work along North Jenkins Road remains a rolling detour.
Saturday is the Walker County Flag Retirement Ceremony. It’s a chance for you to properly dispose of your American flag. Bring your old tattered and torn flags. The flag retirement ceremony is set for Saturday at 11am at the Walker County Civic Center on Highway 27 in Rock Spring.
