The Lookout Mountain City Council has rejected a zoning amendment tied to Rock City’s proposed gondola project. The $30 million to $40 million project would connect the attraction with the base of Lookout Mountain in Flintstone. Rock City says the gondola could create about 20 full-time jobs, generate an estimated $900,000 in additional tax revenue, and reduce traffic on Lookout Mountain. Following last nights vote, Rock City said it will continue planning and use the coming months to fine-tune the proposal.
Northwest Georgia job seekers will have a chance to meet with potential employers today during the Northwest Georgia Job Fair. The event runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center on U.S. Highway 27 in Rock Spring. Job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their résumé and be prepared to talk with prospective employers.
A movie will be filming in Walker County this fall, and producers are looking for young extras. The Farmer & the Belle 2 will film a scene October third at Camp New Dawn, with the strongest need for children ages five to eleven, although ages five to sixteen are eligible. The scene is set in the 1980s, and extras should have pastel, spring-style clothing from that era. Call time is eight a.m., with participants asked to be available until five. Walker County Animal Shelter is taking part in the nationwide Empty the Shelter event, with adoption fees reduced thanks to support from the BISSELL Pet Foundation. Dogs and cats four months and older can be adopted for free, while puppies and kittens under four months are twenty-five dollars. No appointment is needed.
