Battlefield Parkway has reopened to traffic following a gas leak that forced the busy roadway to close for several hours Wednesday.
According to the Catoosa County Fire Department, crews were able to shut off the leaking gas line and have begun collecting traffic cones and clearing the scene.
While the roadway has reopened, officials are asking motorists to continue using caution while traveling through the area as traffic congestion from the extended closure clears.
The gas leak prompted the evacuation and closure of surrounding restaurants earlier Wednesday as emergency crews worked to secure the area.
The fire department said the current operating status of those restaurants remains unknown. Anyone planning to visit a restaurant in the affected area may want to check with the business before traveling there.
No additional information about what caused the gas leak or whether any injuries were reported was immediately available.
Drivers should expect lingering traffic delays along Battlefield Parkway as normal traffic patterns resume.
