Cameron, Tarvin to Introduce Legislation Requiring Financial Oversight Measures for Walker County
ATLANTA — State Representatives Mike Cameron of Rossville and Steve Tarvin of Chickamauga announced Wednesday that they plan to introduce local legislation during the 2027 Georgia General Assembly aimed at increasing financial oversight and accountability in Walker County government.
According to a joint statement, the proposed legislation is intended to strengthen fiscal management in response to what the lawmakers described as ongoing concerns about the county’s financial stability.
If approved, the legislation would require a forensic audit of Walker County government during the first year of each new commission chairman’s term. It would also require the county to publicly disclose any negative quarterly budget variances and develop an action plan to address those shortfalls.
“The future of Walker County and its citizens is of our utmost concern,” Cameron and Tarvin said in a joint statement. “Due to ongoing concerns regarding the financial stability and future of Walker County, we will introduce local legislation during the 2027 legislative session requiring a forensic audit of Walker County’s government during the first year of the chairman of the commission’s term of office and requiring the county to disclose any negative quarterly budget variances and develop an action plan to address them.”
The announcement comes as Walker County officials continue working through budget challenges, including a projected multi-million-dollar shortfall in the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
The 2027 Georgia General Assembly is scheduled to convene on January 11, 2027, when the legislation is expected to be formally introduced.

ATLANTA – State Representative Mike Cameron (R-Rossville) and State Representative Steve Tarvin (R-Chickamauga), chairman of the House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee, today announced that they will introduce local legislation during the upcoming 2027 legislative session aimed at strengthening financial oversight and promoting strong fiscal management in Walker County, Ga.

Representative Mike Cameron represents the citizens of District 1, which includes Dade County, as well as a portion of Walker County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Human Relations & Aging Committee and as Secretary of the Interstate Cooperation Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Industry and Labor and Rural Development committees.
