Chattooga County 911 is participating in a program designed to give first responders important information that could help them better assist residents with special needs during an emergency.
The county has announced its participation in Logan’s List, a voluntary program authorized under Georgia House Bill 631 and O.C.G.A. § 38-3-182. The law allows local 911 centers to maintain information that may help emergency personnel better understand and communicate with someone who could have difficulty communicating or responding during an emergency.
According to Chattooga County 911, Logan’s List may be beneficial for residents with autism or other developmental disabilities, non-verbal or limited verbal communication, cognitive impairments, PTSD or other conditions that may affect behavior during an emergency.
The program can also provide responders with information about sensory sensitivities to sirens, flashing lights or loud noises, as well as physical disabilities, mobility limitations, communication barriers and other special considerations.
Participation in Logan’s List is completely voluntary. Officials say the program flags a residence rather than identifying an individual by name.
Information provided through the program is kept confidential and will not be broadcast over emergency radio traffic where it could be heard on scanners. Instead, dispatchers will provide relevant information to responding personnel through private phone calls.
Officials stressed that registering for Logan’s List does not replace calling 911 during an emergency and does not guarantee a particular type of response. The information is intended to give first responders additional context that may help them approach an emergency situation safely and effectively.
Individuals, parents, guardians and caregivers can enroll in Logan’s List by completing the registration form or by contacting Chattooga County Emergency Management at 706-857-3400 and selecting option 1 or 2.
