The City of Chickamauga is working to remove storm debris following damaging winds that caused widespread power outages and left numerous downed trees throughout the community over the weekend.
City officials say crews are actively cleaning up areas across Chickamauga, but the amount of debris from the storm is unusually high. Residents are asked to help speed up the process by preparing storm debris for collection.
Residents should cut downed trees into log sections measuring six to eight feet in length so the material can fit safely into city trucks. Debris should be stacked neatly near the roadside in a safe location away from traffic and in an area accessible to city crews.
Once debris has been placed for pickup, residents should contact Chickamauga City Hall at (706) 375-3177 or (706) 375-3178 to request a work order.
City officials ask residents for patience as crews work through the large volume of storm-related cleanup while continuing normal city services. Officials estimate it may take several weeks to complete all debris collection.
In a Facebook post The City of Chickamauga thanked residents for their cooperation and for helping keep the community clean and safe.
