A man wanted on felony warrants in Walker County was arrested Tuesday following a cross-state pursuit that began in Tennessee and ended in Georgia.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Criminal Warrants Unit located Kennie Montieth, who was wanted on active felony warrants out of Walker County, and attempted to take him into custody.
Investigators said Montieth instead got into a vehicle and fled, leading deputies on a chase down Rossville Boulevard and onto Interstate 24. The pursuit continued west until the vehicle crossed the Tennessee-Georgia state line.
Authorities said the chase ended after the vehicle slowed, allowing a Hamilton County deputy to safely perform a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT, maneuver to stop the vehicle. Because the pursuit concluded in Georgia, Montieth was taken into custody by Georgia law enforcement officers.
In addition to the outstanding Walker County felony warrants, Montieth now faces multiple new charges in both Tennessee and Georgia.
In Dade County, Georgia, he was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, improper lane change/failure to maintain lane, no insurance, felony obstruction of law enforcement officers by threats or violence, and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officers.
In Hamilton County, Tennessee, Montieth faces charges of evading arrest, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, speeding, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving.
Authorities have not released additional information about the Walker County felony warrants that prompted the attempted arrest.
