At last week’s Walker County Commission meeting.  The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to settle the largest single debt still on the county’s books. The Board authorized using up to $10,755,000 from the general fund – unassigned fund balance to settle the Series 2019 bonds.  Once the Series 2019 bonds are cleared, Walker County’s total debt will be reduced to about $19 million.  Removing the debt will also free up about $1.2 million in cash flow and save tax payers an additional $1.2 to $1.9 million in interest.
