The Freedom Festival is happening tonight in LaFayette. The event starts at 5pm. Live music begins at 6pm. Kids games, lots of vendors, a corn hole tournament and much more is happening at the Ross Abney Complex on First Street. Fireworks will cap off the night. The Freedom Festival begins at 5pm.

More details have emerged on the ammonia leak in Trion Wednesday night. A tanker truck was delivering ammonia to Mount Vernon Mills when the leak occurred. The Trion Fire Department and other agencies were involved in containing and then stopping the leak. No one was injured in the incident. Residents were evacuated from their homes leading to the mill as a safety precaution. They were able to return to their homes just after midnight yesterday morning.

If you’re planning on shooting off some fireworks on the 4th of July. Here’s what you need to know. In the State of Georgia, fireworks are legal to purchase but you have to be 18-years-old to buy them. Fireworks are banned on roads and highways and within 100 yards of an electric plant. You also can’t shoot off fireworks near waste treatment plants, waste water treatment facilities, gas stations, electric substations, jails, prisons, nursing homes or hospitals. Fireworks are also not permitted in state parks and at historic sites. Your firework activities much end by midnight on the 4th.

Unemployment in Northwest Georgia was up five-tenths of a percent to 3.3% in May. More people are working in the region. The labor force is up nearly 13,000 from this time last year. State wide, the labor force is at an all time high. Georgia’s unemployment rate for May was 3.2%.
