High temperatures and low rainfall have increased the risk of wildfire in Georgia. The Georgia Forestry Commission is urging everyone to use extreme caution when conducting any kind of outdoor burning. Fireworks, camp fires, barbecue grills, even hot machinery on dry grass can spark a fire instantly. Always have water, a shovel, and a cell phone on hand, and never be reluctant to call 9-1-1.
The Red Cross has issued some 4th of July safety tips. They say the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public fireworks show. If you plan to shot them off yourself. Never give fireworks to small children or throw or point fireworks towards people, animals, vehicles or flammable materials. Make sure you follow the instructions on the packaging.
Seven Felony arrests in Walker County on Tuesday. Police arrested 34-year-old Christopher David Swan and charged him with aggravated assault and two counts of criminal trespassing. 43-year-old Waylon Dale Epps faces serval charges including felony eluding, possession of meth, trafficking drugs along with several motor vehicle related charges including a DUI.
HGTV has named Cloudland at McLemore Resort on Lookout Mountain as one of the top 15 best Mountain Town Resorts in the country. The resort opened in February of this year and features 245 rooms, 19 suites and 20,000 square feet state of the art meeting and event space. A 3rd golf course won the property is set to open this year.
