The City of LaFayette has been awarded a $6.3 million grant. The money comes from USDOT RAISE grant. The money will be used to completely revitalize and streetscape about 1.3 miles of Villanow Street between Chattanooga Street and Duke Street. The project includes ADA compliant sidewalks. The Mars District will be connected to LaFayette Square. Preparation for the project will begin this year. The physical work will start in 2026.
The State of Georgia is joining four other states next week for Operation Southern Slow Down. Law enforcement will target speeding and aggressive driving. According to the NHTSA the number of people killed in speeding related crashes has increased 25% since 2018. Slow it down if you’re driving around next week.
The Lookout Mountain Police Department is seeking the public’s help to find a suspicious vehicle. A white van with extensive damage to the right rear and side has been seen engaging in suspicious activity on Lula Lake Road and other areas in the city. A new report says that Georgia has the worst on time mail delivery in the country. Only two thirds of the mail was actually delivered on time in the last quarter. That’s 20 percentage points lower than the national average. Senator Jon Ossoff has been confronting Postmaster General Louis DeJoy over slow mail in Georgia. This new report came from DeJoy’s office.
