Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff was in Lafayette yesterday to announce a multimillion-dollar grant that will bring Infrastructure upgrades to the city of Lafayette. The 6.2 million grant will be used to revitalize this section of Villanow Street. The investment will connect Downtown Lafayette and West Lafayette. More than a thousand community members helped generate ideas for the street with the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The bridge along Villanow Street will be torn down and rebuilt, and new lighting, new underground infrastructure, and water lines will also be brought in. A 12 to 15-month environmental study will be done before construction starts for the Villanow Street project. Construction is expected to be completed in four years.

Georgia Democrats are challenging efforts to place Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and three other candidates on the state’s presidential ballots, part of a nationwide effort to block candidates who could siphon votes from incumbent President Joe Biden. While Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians have secure places on the Georgia ballot, other parties and independent candidates must qualify. The Democratic Party of Georgia says that Candidates from the Socialism, Liberation and Green Party have not faithfully observed the state of Georgia election laws.
Operation Southern Slow Down is underway. The highway patrol of Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee are working to crack down on speeding and distracted driving. The week-long initiative will have troopers out in force. Drive safely and watch your speed if your traveling this week.

Gas prices continue to climb both locally and state wide. Catoosa, Dade and Walker Counties have the cheapest gas in the state. According to AAA a gallon of regular unleaded gas averages $3.23 in Northwest Georgia. The state wide average is $3.39. Nationwide it’s $3.52.

 

The Chickamauga Police Department and Georgia Public Training Center are hosting a training at Gordon Lee High School today. Don’t be alarmed if you notice a lot of police activity around the school.
