The Walker County Board of Education will hold a called meeting today at 5pm. The board will continue to conduct interviews for the vacant board seat in Post 3. The meeting will be held at Ridgeland High School.
There were three felony arrests in Walker County on Saturday night. Robert Lamar Barrett, 59-years-old was booked on felony failure to appear charge and a misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement. 45-year-old Chad Aaron Cline faces felony failure to appear. Zachary Logan Narramore, 20-years-old, was charged with felony violation of probation, driving on a suspended license and other charges.
Walker County Kids Day is tomorrow. The event happens at Saddle Ridge from 1pm-6pm. Free games and activities, school supplies, backpacks and more. There will also be free health screenings for vision, hearing and dental. Immunizations will be available for those who qualify. First day of school in Walker County is August 8th. That’s a week from this Thursday.
The American Red Cross has issued a checklist as a reminder for parents sending kids to school. If your student is younger or is going to school for the first time, there are a few things you need to make sure they know. Make sure they know how to get in touch with their parents at work. Their home address. Also make sure they know not to talk to strangers or accept rides from someone they don’t know.
One man drowned this weekend in a Dalton lake. The accident happened Saturday. The 26-year-old man and his brother-in-law were kayaking at Haig Mill Lake Park. The victim had removed his life jacket at some point, then swam out into the lake to possibly retrieve a kayak that had drifted away. The victim reportedly became tired and called for help, eventually sinking beneath the surface of the water. The man’s name has yet to be released.
