LaFayette Police is asking for help in finding a person involved in a hit and run. The accident happened June 8th at around 7pm on East Villanow Street. The driver of 4×4 pickup truck hit a pedestrian and failed to stop. If you have any information about this incident please call the LaFayette Police Department.
Mark it on your calendar. Walker County and Thrive Regional Partnership will have another community engagement session. The meeting will happen at 6pm on August 26th at the Civic Center. Officials want to use the meeting to gather input from residents about the county’s digital connectivity plan. Walker County’s Digital Connectivity Plan will be used to seek “Broadband Ready Community” status from the state. The special designation will make the county eligible for state and federal grant dollars that could reduce the cost of expanding broadband infrastructure into unserved areas along with other benefits. Kinetic by Windstream will be in attendance. The company will provide an update on the fiber build out in the area. The project is aimed at connecting more than 3,000 homes and businesses in rural parts of the county.
The YMCA of Chattanooga has announced a new $3.5 million grant. The money will go towards helping fund the YMCA’s after school programs in elementary schools in Catoosa and Walker Counties. The grant is available for five years.
If you’re a Verizon Wireless customer, you probably noticed an issue with your cell service yesterday. It’s affecting Verizon customers around the area. Some IOS devices show the letters SOS where the service bars normally are. The service interruption started yesterday afternoon. It’s expected to be fully restored by later today.
