The election is not over for everyone. There is still one race left to be determined. The District 3 Board of Education race is set for a run off. Incumbent Tina Painter and Travis Q. Middleton were the top two vote getters. They will square off in the run off that is set for December 3rd. Early voting will take place later this month, November 25, 26 and 27 from 8am to 5pm at the election office on South Duke Street in LaFayette. You can vote at your assigned precincts on election day December 3rd. The polls will be open from 7am to 7pm.
A few more news and notes from Tuesday’s election. President elect Donald Trump received 79% of the vote in Walker County. Trump also received 79% in 2016 and 2020. Voter turnout was high across the region. 74% of registered voters in Walker County went to the polls Tuesday. 76% in Catoosa, 72% in Dade and Chattooga.
Three felony arrests in Walker County on Tuesday night. 44-year-old Nicholas Shaun Wann was charged with false imprisonment and willful obstruction.
The Real Deal Home Store in LaFayette is closing. The store’s owner Jim Powell made the announcement yesterday in a Facebook post. The Real Deal has been in business for 30 years. Powell says the property located at 315 North Main Street has been sold. The store will remain open until the end of the year.
AAA Is reminding drivers to watch out for deer this time of the year. According to AAA deer are involved in an estimated 50,000 crashes each year in the state. According to researchers at the University of Georgia, 14% of all vehicle collisions in the state are caused by deer. Drivers are encouraged to use their high beam headlights and use caution when driving at dusk and dawn. AAA also says not to swerve to try and avoid the deer. They say that’s the biggest mistake you can make and can often cause you to hit another vehicle.
