The polls are open today for voting in a run-off election for a seat on the Walker County School Board. Travis Middleton faces Tina Painter for the District 3 seat. The pair were the top two vote getters among four candidates vying for the position in the November general election. Painter received 33% of the vote, while Middleton received 27%. Since no one got over 50% the pair face off in today’s runoff to determine the spot on the school board.
The Georgia Department of Human Services announced yesterday that the application period for this winter’s low-income energy assistance program is open. The program is for individuals 65 and older and those who are medically homebound. The program helps both homeowners and renters with heating bills through direct payments to home energy suppliers. 44-year-old Bonnie Sue Hargis was the only felony arrest in Walker County on Sunday. Hargis was charged with loitering and prowling along with possession of drug related objects.
