The District 3 seat on the Walker County School Board was decided yesterday in a runoff election.  Travis Q. Middleton defeated the incumbent Tina Painter with 69% of the vote.
County road crews are working to get the paving’s finished for the year.  One a few roads remain for repaving on the 2024 list.  Crews will be paving Rocky Court, Ridge Road, Dixon Springs Road, Chamberlain Road and Chamberlain Road Spur.  Walker County will have paved over 51 miles of roads in 2024.  The work is funded by TSPLOTS and SPLOST money.
Mowhawk Industries has filed a lawsuit in Whitfield County Superior County.  The carpet maker claims several major chemical companies concealed the risks and provided false assurances when using so called forever chemicals.  Mowhawk says the corporations provided false or misleading assurances about the safety of the chemicals.  The products have been used for decades due to their resistance to heat and stains.  The Environmental Protection Agency says the chemicals can cause developmental delays in children, increase the risk of certain cancers and reduce the body’s ability to fight certain infections.
Riche Wood is stepping down after 11 years as the girl’s softball coach at Ridgeland High School.  Wood led the Panthers to 6 state playoff appearances including a trip to the Elite 8 in 2016.  School leaders are working to identify who the next head coach will be.
