Some new laws are going into effect in 2025 in Georgia.  The new school voucher law says that students who attend the lowest performing 25% of schools under the state’s academic rating system can apply for $6,000 in vouchers.  The vouchers can be used for private school or home school expenditures.  Changes are coming in voting registration for the state’s homeless population.  The new law says that homeless people will use their county’s election office to receive election related mail.
GDOT has announced they will temporarily halt lane closures on interstates, major state routes and roadways near key shopping areas.  The suspension is in effect until Sunday January 5th.  GDOT says you should still be alert in construction areas as maintenance crews may still be working.
Just another reminder for next week.  Walker County Government offices and the county landfill will be closed on January 1st.
The state Department of Labor says the unemployment rate was up in November for Northwest Georgia.  The unemployment rate for the area was up one-tenth of a percent to 3.5%.
