Drivers in downtown LaFayette should expect several road closures this weekend as the annual Honeybee Festival gets underway.
According to the City of LaFayette Police Department, North Main Street and several side streets between the Food City parking lot and West Main Street will close beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, May 29. The closures are expected to remain in place until 8 a.m. Sunday, May 31.
Officials said motorists traveling through the area should use Cherokee Street and Duke Street as alternate routes during the closure period.
Additional road closures are also planned for Saturday night. Beginning at 4 p.m., Cherokee Street will close from the Food City parking lot entrance to Simmons Street through midnight. Culberson Street will also close from Cherokee Street to Oak Street during the same timeframe.
Police are encouraging drivers to plan ahead, expect heavier traffic in the downtown area, and use alternate routes while attending or traveling through the festival area.
