A lawsuit has been filed claiming that two members of the Walker County school board are ineligible to serve.  The suit was filed in September by Chelsea Cagle.  Cagle is a Walker County resident and has a child in Walker County Schools.  The suit says that Board Members Mike Carruth and Karen Harden are ineligible because they have children who work as administrators in the school system.  A Superior Court judge will hold a hearing on the case this month.  There is a state code that states, “No Person who has an immediate family member…serving as…system administrative staff in the local school system shall be eligible to serve as a member of such local board of education.”  Carruth has a son named Justin who is the Coordinator of secondary instruction for Career, Technical and Agricultural Education.  Harden has a son named Scott, who is the coordinator of the Science & Technology Center.  The case was filed against Mike Carruth and Karen Harden as individuals and the school system is not named as a defendant.

A nurse in Walker County has been arrested for what police say is sexual misconduct in a nursing home.

The Lafayette Police Department says 39-year-old Jessica Camp is charged with sexual assault against a person in custody as a person of authority.  In their arrest report, detectives said they were called out to the Pruitt Health Nursing Home on Roadrunner Boulevard in Lafayette.  They say they received a complaint that a resident had been scammed by Camp for $1,300 in rent in exchange for sexual favors.  Another resident at the facility told investigators that they had been scammed for $750 in a similar manner.  Both residents said they were disabled and had been led to believe that Camp was their girlfriend.  According to Pruitt Health Camp has been terminated.  The company says they are deeply concerned and saddened by the news.  The company says when they learned of the situation they immediately notified authorities.  Due to the patients right to privacy, the company has no further details.

Flu is picking up steam while RSV lung infections that can hit kids and older people hard may be peaking, U.S. health officials said Friday.   Seven states were reporting high levels of flu-like illnesses in early November. In a new CDC report on Friday, the agency said the tally was up to 11 states — mostly in the South and Southwest.  In the last month, RSV infections rose sharply in some parts of the country, nearly filling hospital emergency departments in Georgia, Texas and some other states.

Dollywood is one of only two theme parks to nab a spot on the Forbes Best Customer Service 2024 list.  Dolly Parton’s theme park landed the No. 27 spot, keeping it in the top 1% for best customer service. The only other theme park, Legoland, came in at No. 179. Topping the list is The UPS Store and Chick-fil-A.
