The City of Lafayette officially opened its newest recreational destination yesterday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Traverse Park.
Located along Culberson Avenue, the park is divided into two sections, offering a variety of activities for visitors of all ages and abilities. The north side features climbing walls and an accessible playground, while the south side includes a pavilion, skate park, walking trail, and disc golf course.
City officials say the park has already become a popular gathering place for families and community members. Although Traverse Park had a soft opening during the Honeybee Festival, attendance has continued to grow as more residents discover the new facility.
The park’s design draws inspiration from nearby Rocktown, a collection of naturally formed rock structures recognized worldwide among the bouldering community. Officials hope the climbing features at Traverse Park will introduce more people to the area’s natural outdoor attractions while providing a safe place to develop climbing skills.
The accessible playground was designed to allow children of all abilities to participate and enjoy the space.
Traverse Park also highlights Lafayette’s continued investment in outdoor recreation and community spaces. Officials say the park has already attracted large crowds, including skateboarders, families, and visitors from throughout the region.
The park is open daily from sunrise until 11 p.m. City officials say lighting throughout the facility allows visitors to safely enjoy the park during evening hours.
