Residents may notice an increased law enforcement presence at LaFayette Middle School later this month as the City of LaFayette Police Department conducts active shooter training exercises.

The training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, and Tuesday, July 21, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at LaFayette Middle School.

During the exercises, community members can expect to see police officers, patrol vehicles, emergency vehicles, and other training-related activity at the school. Police officials emphasize that these are planned training exercises and that there is no threat to the public or the school.

According to the department, the exercises are designed to help officers remain prepared to respond effectively and professionally during critical incidents. The training is intended to strengthen emergency response capabilities and enhance the safety of students, school staff, and the community.

Officials are asking the public for their patience and cooperation while the training is underway and encourage residents to avoid the immediate area if possible to allow officers to conduct the exercises safely.

Anyone with questions about the training can contact the City of LaFayette Police Department at 706-639-1540.
