The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program is seeking applicants from northwest Georgia for its upcoming session. This program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Chickamauga Memorial Unit 217 and other local organizations, provides a unique opportunity for high school girls to learn about the principles and procedures of government.

High school girls who have completed their junior year with good moral character, leadership abilities, and ranking in the top third of their class are eligible to apply. The program aims to educate youth about the fundamental ideals and principles of the American government system, with the belief that this knowledge is essential for the survival of our republic.

The Girls State session will be held at Valdosta State University from June 9 to June 14, 2024. Those selected for the program will receive sponsorship from the American Legion Auxiliary Chickamauga Memorial Unit 217, covering registration fees, transportation as needed, and assistance with the application process.

Interested candidates can obtain application questionnaires from their Junior Counselors’ offices or by contacting Jennie Chandler at 423-994-8485. Completed applications must be submitted by April 1, 2024. Once selected, applicants will undergo a screening process before their final application is submitted to the ALA Department of Georgia. Accepted participants will receive detailed instructions on preparing for the week-long event.

This program not only offers valuable educational insights but also fosters leadership skills among young women in the community. Parents, teachers, and community leaders are encouraged to nominate deserving candidates for this enriching experience. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of shaping the future of tomorrow’s leaders.
