The City of LaFayette has announced that Queen City Lake will be completely closed to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 5, as crews conduct treatment for an invasive aquatic plant.
While the beach area at Queen City Lake is already closed, city officials said the closure will temporarily expand Wednesday to include the dock and the lake itself. For that day only, the entire area—including the shoreline, dock and open water—will be off-limits to the public.
During the one-day closure, all recreational activities, including fishing, kayaking and swimming, will be prohibited.
According to the city, crews will be treating the lake for Eurasian Watermilfoil, an invasive aquatic plant. The treatment had originally been scheduled for later this year, but officials decided to move it up while the shoreline was already closed, allowing the work to be completed without requiring another separate closure in the future.
City officials emphasized that the aquatic plant treatment is not related to the ongoing investigation into elevated E. coli levels that prompted the initial closure of the beach area.
