Walker County Animal Shelter Waives Adoption Fees for Available Pets

Adoption fees are currently being waived for all available animals at the Walker County Animal Shelter as officials ask the community to help find homes for a growing number of dogs and cats.

The waived adoption fees are being offered through a partnership with the ASPCA as the shelter continues to see more animals arriving than leaving for new homes.

Over the past week, 16 animals were sent to their forever homes, while 33 new animals were taken into the shelter. With more than twice as many animals coming in as going out, shelter officials are encouraging residents who may be considering adding a pet to their family to consider adoption.

Residents can visit the shelter Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to meet animals currently available for adoption. No appointment is required.

Available dogs and cats can also be viewed online through the Walker County Animal Shelter website.

Shelter officials stressed that adopting an animal does more than provide a dog or cat with a new home. Each adoption also creates space for another animal that may need the shelter’s help.

“One adoption creates space. One open kennel helps another animal. One community can create a ripple,” the shelter said.

With adoption fees currently waived, shelter officials hope the community will step forward to help more animals find permanent homes while creating much-needed kennel space for those still arriving.
