The Walker County Animal Shelter is partnering with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for the second consecutive year as part of the national #TheRescueEffect initiative.
Through the month-long campaign, adoption fees are being waived on all animals at the shelter, courtesy of the ASPCA.
Shelter officials say adopting or fostering an animal does more than change the life of one pet. It also creates additional space and resources, allowing the shelter to help more animals in need.
The initiative is based on the idea that when one animal is helped, many others benefit as well.
Residents interested in adopting can view animals available for adoption online through the Walker County Animal Shelter website or visit the shelter in person.
The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Officials say visiting in person is often the fastest way to help an animal, as shelter staff work to provide care for current residents while assisting adopters and welcoming new arrivals.
The Walker County Animal Shelter encourages residents to spread the word about the fee-waived adoptions and consider giving an animal a forever home.
