Walker County Board of Education to Meet Tonight

The Walker County Board of Education will meet in regular session Monday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at the Walker County Department of Education building on North Cherokee Street in LaFayette.

During the meeting, board members are expected to recognize several students, organizations and community partners for achievements and service throughout the school year.

Special recognitions on the agenda include a resolution honoring Bank of LaFayette, recognition of a top family engagement volunteer, and Gold Level recognition from the Georgia Office of Student Achievement for Naomi Elementary School. Students from LaFayette High School involved in FFA and CTI programs will also be recognized.

The board will hear the superintendent’s report and a facilities update before considering financial reports and several consent agenda items.

Among the consent agenda items are agreements and memorandums of understanding with educational, counseling and community organizations, including partnerships involving special education services, mental health counseling, trauma therapy and student support services.

Board members are also expected to consider amendments to mandatory addendums for LaFayette High School and Rock Spring Elementary School, along with contracts for athletic trainers through Erlanger serving both LaFayette High School and Ridgeland High School.

Additional items include agreements with the YMCA after-school program at North LaFayette Elementary School and a Scholastic Book Fair scheduled for September at the school.

The meeting will also include public participation, executive session and personnel recommendations before adjournment.
