Walker County Government is bringing back its “Mulch Madness” giveaway, offering free mulch to county residents from August 17 through August 22.
The giveaway comes following what county officials described as a record year for tree and brush collections. Over the past two weeks, Walker County’s solid waste team has processed the collected material into mulch, resulting in a supply that has exceeded the landfill’s available storage capacity.
To help clear space for continued operations, the county will give away a portion of the mulch to residents while supplies last.
Walker County residents can visit the Walker County Landfill between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the giveaway. Upon arriving at the scale house, residents should tell a staff member they are there for Mulch Madness and will be directed to the pickup area.
The giveaway is limited to two loader scoops of mulch per household to allow as many residents as possible to participate.
County officials say the free mulch can be used for flower beds, landscaping, and other outdoor projects.
The Walker County Landfill is located at 5120 N. Marble Top Road in Chickamauga. The free mulch will be available August 17–22 while supplies last.
