Two special elections that were scheduled to take place in Walker County this November have been canceled after both races drew only one qualified candidate.
Walker County Director of Elections Danielle L. Montgomery announced that the two special elections scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026, in conjunction with the General Election will no longer be held.
According to the notice, the elections are being canceled pursuant to O.C.G.A. §21-2-291 because the candidates who qualified for the two offices are unopposed.
Sharon J. Evans is the lone qualified candidate for Walker County Tax Commissioner, while Kevin Richardson is unopposed for the District 4 seat on the Walker County Board of Education.
Under Georgia law, when a candidate is unopposed in a canceled election, that candidate is deemed to have voted for himself or herself.
The cancellation applies only to the two special elections for Tax Commissioner and School Board District 4. Walker County voters will still head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the 2026 General Election.
