The Walker County Board of Commissioners will consider several planning and zoning requests, a proposed asphalt and concrete plant, a road abandonment and law enforcement grant funding during its regular meeting Thursday, November 5.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Walker County Governmental Authority, Annex IV, located at 201 South Duke Street in LaFayette.
One of the major items on the agenda is a request from Walker County Stone LLC for a Special Use Class 3 permit to operate an asphalt and concrete plant at 363 Ridgeway Road in LaFayette.
The Walker County Planning Commission has recommended approval of the permit as submitted. County commissioners will hold a public hearing on the request before considering whether to grant final approval.
Two additional zoning requests will also be considered.
Antonio Criscuoli is requesting a variance for his business in an R-1 residential zoning district at 913 Garden Street in Rossville.
James Cobb Sr. is seeking a variance involving property totaling less than five acres in an A-1 agricultural zoning district at 12129 Highway 193 in Chickamauga.
The Planning Commission has recommended approval of both requests as submitted.
Commissioners will also conduct public hearings on a proposed right-of-way encroachment ordinance establishing policies, standards and guidelines, along with a proposal to abandon a portion of Old Highway 27.
Following the public hearing, commissioners are scheduled to consider Resolution R-070-26, which would formally abandon the designated portion of Old Highway 27.
Another item on the agenda involves funding for the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.
Commissioners will consider Resolution R-071-26, authorizing the Sheriff’s Office to apply for $17,517 through the Fiscal Year 2026 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.
According to the agenda, the grant would require no matching funds from Walker County.
The board is also scheduled to approve minutes from its October 1 regular meeting and October 20 special called meeting.
Additional agenda items include reports from Chairwoman Angie Teems and county departments, public comments, commissioner comments and a possible executive session.
Under Walker County’s zoning procedures, speakers supporting a planning or zoning request are collectively allowed 12 minutes to address commissioners. Those opposing a request are also collectively allowed 12 minutes.
The November 5 meeting will provide residents an opportunity to hear details about the proposed asphalt and concrete plant, zoning variances and other county business before commissioners make their decisions.
All proposed actions remain subject to discussion and approval by the Board of Commissioners.
