The Walker County Board of Commissioners will hold its regular scheduled meeting on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Walker County Courthouse Annex III, 201 S. Main Street in LaFayette.
The meeting agenda includes a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget, followed by consideration of resolutions to adopt both the county’s General Fund budget and Enterprise Funds and Special Revenue budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Commissioners will also hold a public hearing on a proposal to extend the county’s temporary data center moratorium from 90 days to 180 days. Following the hearing, the board is expected to consider resolutions establishing the 180-day moratorium and creating a Data Center Study Group.
The board will receive the monthly financial report from Chief Financial Officer Christian Roach for the month ending May 31.
Several planning and zoning requests are also scheduled for public hearings and action, including:
- A setback variance request for property at 794 Rock Creek Road in Flintstone. The Planning Commission has recommended approval.
- A request for a variance allowing more than six driveways on a private drive at 282 Turner Lane in Rossville. The Planning Commission has recommended denial.
- A request from Battlefield Post 214 A L LTD to allow four manufactured homes within the Chickamauga Battlefield Overlay District at 540 Park City Road/314 Memorial Drive in Rossville. The Planning Commission has recommended approval.
Under old business, commissioners will revisit a resolution to close a portion of Concord Road in East Armuchee that was previously tabled during the board’s June 4 meeting.
The consent agenda includes an independent contractor agreement for correctional medical services with Bridgepoint Correctional Health, LLC, for the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, along with a resolution authorizing an application for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for park improvements.
Additional new business includes consideration of:
- A comprehensive county financial policy.
- A policy prohibiting county employees from purchasing county surplus property.
- Amending rates for Walker County Transit Service.
- Purchasing approximately $40,904 in Hurst hydraulic rescue tools for Emergency Services.
- Purchasing approximately $59,675 in PVC fold-in-place liners from Chase Reline, Inc., for the Ivy Street project using TSPLOST funding.
- Purchasing approximately $44,811 in emergency traffic signal replacement equipment for the intersection of McFarland Avenue and Mission Ridge Road.
The meeting will conclude with commissioner comments and, if necessary, an executive session. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
