The Walker County Data Center Development Standards Study Committee will hold its first meeting next week as county officials begin reviewing potential regulations surrounding data center development.

The committee will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 27, at the Walker County Civic Center, located at 10052 Highway 27 in Rock Spring.

The committee was formed to review Walker County’s Code of Ordinances as it relates to data centers and consider whether additional development standards or regulations are needed.

Topics expected to be reviewed include where data centers may be allowed under the county’s zoning regulations, along with requirements involving setbacks, buffers, noise and lighting. The committee will also examine potential environmental impacts, compatibility with surrounding land uses and other possible regulations related to data center development.

Following the initial meeting, the committee is scheduled to meet regularly every other Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center.

All meetings of the Walker County Data Center Development Standards Study Committee will be open to the public.
