The Walker County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are conducting an investigation following the death of a six-month-old infant early Monday morning in Chickamauga.
According to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson, deputies and Walker County EMS were dispatched to a residence located at 199 Wayne Harris Drive in Chickamauga at approximately 3:48 a.m. on Monday, May 11, in response to a report of an unresponsive infant who was not breathing.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, deputies determined the six-month-old male infant was deceased. The Walker County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the residence.
Walker County detectives, along with an agent from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, are actively investigating the cause and manner of the child’s death.
Officials said no criminal charges have been filed.
The infant will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy as the investigation continues.
