Walker County residents will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted tires free of charge next month as the county prepares to host its next Retire Your Tires Amnesty Day.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Walker County Landfill.
During the event, Walker County residents can drop off up to 15 tires per household at no cost. The program is designed to provide residents with a convenient way to properly dispose of old tires while helping reduce illegal dumping and protect the environment.
The event is open exclusively to Walker County residents and is not available to commercial businesses. Participants must provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or current utility bill, to qualify for free tire disposal.
Residents will also be responsible for unloading their own tires.
County officials have established several guidelines for the event. Car and pickup truck tires must be removed from their rims before being accepted. Specialty tires, including tractor, solid, forklift and 18-wheeler tires, will not be accepted.
All tires must be clean and free of debris, rocks, concrete, metal and dirt. Skid steer tracks will also not be accepted.
Traffic will be directed through designated routes at the landfill. Cars and trucks will follow the green arrow path to unload tires, while vehicles hauling trailer loads will follow the orange arrow path.
The Retire Your Tires Amnesty Day program has been a successful recycling effort in Walker County since it began in 2017.
According to county officials, more than 33,000 tires have been collected and recycled through the program over the past nine years.
Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for November 14 and take advantage of the opportunity to dispose of unwanted tires at no charge.
