Voters across Walker County are preparing for the General Primary Runoff Election on Tuesday, June 16, with several statewide contests on the ballot.

Early voting began this week and continues through Friday. In Walker County, voters may cast early ballots at the Walker County Elections Office, located at 311 South Main Street in LaFayette, or at the Chickamauga Civic Center.

On Election Day, precincts across the county will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Election officials remind voters that anyone in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot.

At the state level, Republican voters will choose nominees in several key races, including U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State School Superintendent and Public Service Commissioner District 5.

The Republican U.S. Senate runoff features Congressman Mike Collins and former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley. The winner will advance to face incumbent U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff in the November general election.

In the Republican gubernatorial runoff, voters will choose between Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and businessman Rick Jackson. The winner will move on to face Democratic nominee and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in November.

Additional Republican runoff contests include races for Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State School Superintendent and Public Service Commissioner.

Democratic voters will also have runoff races on their ballots, including contests for Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Commissioner of Insurance and Commissioner of Labor.

Voters are encouraged to verify their polling location before heading to the polls and to bring an acceptable photo ID, which is required for in-person voting in Georgia.

For additional information regarding voter eligibility, polling locations or election procedures, residents can contact the Walker County Board of Elections and Registration.

Election results will begin to be reported after polls close Tuesday evening.
