A Summerville Judge has declared a mistrial in a portion of the Criminal Case Against former Walker County Deputy Stephen Zachary Williams.  He faced five charges and after nearly two days of Jury deliberations, jurors unanimously voted to convict him on one charge of incest.  Williams charges include rape, incest, two counts of Aggravated Sodomy, and Sexual battery.  Williams was a former deputy at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office from 2018 to 2021 before allegations of sexual abuse were brought against him.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation are analyzing those claims.  Williams was quickly placed on leave and was later fired from the Sheriff’s office shortly after.

Walker County hosted its annual motorcycle and car show on Labor Day.  The event is designed to raise money for Stocking Full of Love.  Stocking full of love has served more than 700 families in Walker County since 1990.  Put on by the Walker County Sheriff’s Department.  Their goal is to make sure every child has a present to open on Christmas morning.

Approximately 245,366 pounds of frozen chicken strips are being recalled due to the possible contamination of extraneous materials, specifically pieces of plastic, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  Conagra Brands, Inc, a Marshall, Mo. establishment is the company making the recall.  The frozen chicken strips were produced on June 20, 2023, July 11, 2023, and July 17, 2023. The following products are subject to recall:  8.9-oz. carton containing one entree of “BANQUET CHICKEN STRIPS MEAL” with best if used by “DEC 11 2024,” “JAN 01 2025,” or “JAN 07 2025” and lot numbers 5009317120, 5009319220, or 5009319820 located on the side of the carton.  The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-9” printed on the side of the carton. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide and were also sold online.  The problem was discovered when a consumer complaint of plastic in the chicken strip portion of the product, which resulted in an oral injury associated with consumption of this product.  There have been no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products.  Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Rambler softball is in action on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  Wednesday the Ramblers travel to Calhoun.  First pitch is at 5:30pm.  The JV will play after the varsity.  Thursday is Senior Night at LaFayette as the Ramblers host Ridgeland.
