The LaFayette Police Department has released their arrest numbers from 2023. The department recorded 52 felony arrests last year. 74 drug arrests. 57 DUI’s and 1,112 traffic citations were written. There were more than 10,000 calls to 911.
Teh December unemployment rate for Northwest Georgia was down one-tenth of a percent. The unemployment rate in our corner of the state was 2.8%. Walker County’s December unemployment rate was 2.8%. That is up slightly from November’s 2.7%. Statewide, the unemployment rate is 2.9% for December. Nationally unemployment is at 3.5%.
The Rossville Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Wednesday. The blaze happened at 1203 Lee Avenue. Crews arrived Wednesday morning to find heavy smoke and fire. The fire was contained to just one room. Damage has been estimated at $20,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured. Walker County assisted in fighting the fire.
