Walker County officials say that public transportation saw record numbers last year. Walker Transit had their best numbers on record in 2023. 30,456 trips were made. That number is 9% higher than the year before and up 65% from 2021.

Chattooga County deputies responded to a report of a stabbing Monday night. Deputies arrived on the scene at Ballenger Road shortly before midnight. They found the victim with a large knife that had been pushed in all the way to the handle in victims’ neck. The suspect was identified as the victim’s step-son. Police were able to locate Christopher Martin Roberson after a short search. Roberson was trying to leave the after stealing a truck. Roberson faces charges of aggravated assault, 2nd degree burglary, theft and criminal trespassing.

Another spots gambling bill is advancing to the Georgia Senate. Supporters of the bill believe sports betting can be set up under the Georgia Lottery Corporation. That would prevent the measure of ever appearing on a ballot in the state. The Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee voted 8-2 yesterday to advance Senate Bill 386. The bill would create 16 sports betting licenses. Efforts to legalize gambling in 2023 failed.
